Special Educational Needs

SEN Statement of Intent

At Woodpecker Court as a designated post 16 Special Education Provider (section 41), supporting students with SEN forms the core of what we do, striving to ensure that all students feel equally valued.  The outdoors forms explicit links to both formal and informal learning outcomes enabling students to progress well and as a result transition to a sustained destination therefore improving lifelong prospects.  This ethos combined with our values and intent aim to eliminate prejudice and discrimination, developing an environment where all students feel safe and can therefore flourish.

Educational inclusion is about equal opportunities for all learners whatever their age, gender, ethnicity, SEN need type, prior attainment or background.  We pay close attention to the achievement of different groups of learners.

We aim to form positive relationships with students, parents and carers and believe that open and honest communication is vital in supporting the young person.  All of our practice is underpinned by a policy that has been written with the student with SEN in mind.
