Level 2 Technical Diploma in Animal Care
This course is designed for students who want to start a career in animal care. It is ideal for students who are intending to progress directly to employment in animal care, progress to level 3 animal management or to an animal care apprenticeship. Learners will work with a range of domestic, exotic and large animal species situated on our on site, purpose built small holding.
How will I learn/course delivery?
Students will have access to a purpose built small holding situated on site to allow hands on experience. Students will have a mixture of theory based and practical based learning throughout the year.
Woodpecker Court and BTEC encourage the inclusion of employer engagement throughout the year and will aim to involve external animal related industries within the delivery of the course.
What will I learn?
Students will cover a range of topics within different industry related units. There will be elements of practical and theory based learning throughout the year.
Practical animal health
Animal biology and health
Animal care work placement
Animal behaviour assessment and safe handling
Feeding, accommodation and moving animals
This course has a mandatory work experience requirement included which will need to be completed at an external placement. The animal care work placement unit requires learners to spend 75 hours in a real working environment. Woodpecker Court will aim to support in the work placements for students enrolled on the course.
Method Of Assessment
Students will be assessed in a variety of ways including assignments and exams. There is a mix of internal and external assessment methods used within the course.
On completion of this course, students should have the confidence to gain employment in the animal care industry. Alternatively this course will also provide a stepping stone into further education on courses like the level 3 Animal Management Diploma.
